Abstract

A fast reactor is controlled by movement of outer parts of the core relative to the fixed central part. The outer, blanket, fuel assemblies, 19, are mounted on the base-plates, 21, which are radially movable, with the assemblies 19, to effect reactivity control. Each plate 21 is supported by the flexible steel strips 25 and legs 23. A radial force on plate 21 is produced by fluid pressure inside the bellows 29 to which the rod 30 is secured.
