Abstract

1,179,519. Shop fronts. H. J. GARDNER. 8 March, 1968 [8 March, 1967], No. 11334/68. Heading E1R. A shop front comprising at least one window 4 surmounted by a facia panel 5 and/or having an adjacent door opening consists of framework formed of principal rectangular section tubular steel members 8, 9, [10, 11] and intermediate frame members 12, 13, 14, [15-18] welded &c to form an integral unit fabricated before erection, the tubular members being slack on at least three sides with strips 26 of aluminium or the like secured to the members. The strips 26 take the form of U-section extrusions having inturned lips 26<SP>1</SP> and clip over the member to embrace three sides thereof. Z-sectioned strips 28 are secured externally of the strips 26 and provide a flange rebate 28<SP>1</SP> for receiving the facia panel 5 or the window pane 4, these panels being held by aluminium glazing or retaining beads 36 which spring into undercut grooves 28<SP>11</SP> provided in the Z-shaped strips 28. Various combinations of windows, doors and panels are described and in the case of side panels, having strengthening horizontal cross bars between the window or door frame outer member and the outer panel frame member, the frame is secured to the surrounding structure by screws &c passing through these cross bars into said structure, before the side panels are mounted in the framework.
