Abstract

1,179,155. Polyvinylchloride. NORSK HYDRO-ELEKTRISK KVAELSTOFAKTIESELSKAB. 24 Feb., 1967, No. 9050/67. Heading C3P. Polyvinylchloride having desirable electrical properties is obtained by adding to an aqueous dispersion of the polymer (a) a water-soluble or -dispersible phosphate compound and (b) a water-soluble compound of an alkaline earth metal, in either order, so as to precipitate an alkaline earth metal phosphate on to the polymer. Compound (a) may be a mono- or di-alkyl phosphate having a chain length up to 20 carbons, an alkali salt thereof, ammonium hydrogen phosphate or phosphoric acid in an amount of 0À1-2À0% of the P.V.C. and (b) is preferably a hydroxide in an amount equivalent to the phosphate. Both are preferably added in water and the whole agitated for 5-15 minutes. The polymer is then dried and may be compounded with a plasticizer, e.g. D.O.P., stabilizer and lubricant. The dispersion of polymer may be as obtained from a dispersion polymerization process.
