Abstract

Vinylidene chloride polymers, such as copolymers of vinylidene chloride with vinyl chloride, are heat-stabilized by the addition of 0.5 to 5 per cent of ethylene diamine N,N1-tetra-acetic acid, or a salt thereof, wherein at least two of the hydrogen ions of the acid are replaced by two identical alkali metal ions, and the other two hydrogen ions are replaced by an alkaline earth metal ion or alkali metal ions. Salts specified are the tetrasodium, tetrapotassium, tetralithium, dilithium disodium, dilithium dipotassium, dipotassium disodium, barium disodium, calcium dilithium, barium dilithium, calcium dipotassium and barium dipotassium salts of ethylene diamine N,N1-tetra-acetic acid. Also present in the composition may be dibutyl sebacate.
