In a bed-settee, in which part of a mattress-supporting linkwork (L<SP>1</SP>, Figs. 8-10, not shown) on a separate fabric sheet 112 is inverted to form the support for the seat cushions, spring bands 117 are arranged to compress the front cover of the folded mattress M. During the first mattress folding step of the conversion, the bands 117 are rolled round a bar 115 so as to apply further tension to springs 116. A stiffening wire 113 surrounds the sheet 112.
