Abstract

1,178,722. Powder metallurgy. A.OKA. Jan.24, 1967[Jan.25, 1966], No.3495/67. Heading C7D. Sintered metal bodies having a density substantially equal to the true density of the metal are produced from colloidal metal particles less than 0À2 microns in size by compacting and sintering the particles in the absence of oxygen e. g. in an atmosphere of inert gas, nitrogen or a vacuum. The metals specified are; Sc, Y, La, Ac, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Tc, Re, Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt. The powders are preferably produced by dehydrogenation of the hydrides, thermal decomposition of the carbonyls or alkoxides or by passing a high voltage, high frequency pulsed discharge between metal electrodes in a liquid medium (Iwatani method).
