Abstract

117,703. Patch, H. M. Aug. 10. 1917. Differential or balance gearing.-Relates to differential power-transmission gearing for motorvehicles, adapted under all conditions to drive the two rear wheels positively in both directions and allow one wheel to rotate faster than the other in both directions. The wheel axles 11, 13 are provided with toothed heads 20, 21 between which are engaged toothed rings 30, 31, 32 driven by the casing 7 connected by bevel-gear 2, 3 with the driving-shaft 1. The rings are keyed together and to the casing and rotate with the latter, but are free to reciprocate axially in the casing and relatively to each other. One wheel is able to run faster than the other by causing the rings to reciprocate between the toothed heads 20, 21.
