Abstract

1,176,698. Cooling steel wire. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN AG. Nov.1, 1967 [Nov.3, 1966], No. 49607 / 67. Heading C7N. Apparatus for patenting steel wire consists of a fluidized bed through which passes a continuous conveyer on which the wire is carried in the form of overlapping turns. At the entry end of the bed the conveyer passes over a flat surface, while at the exit end it passes over a belt conveyer the upper run of which moves in the opposite direction to the first conveyer; by this means heaps of bed material are built up on the wire conveyer at both the entry and exit ends, these defining the length of the bed. A jet tube may be provided under the belt conveyer to produce a stream of air which prevents escape of material from the bed. As illustrated, wire is formed into overlapping turns 6 on conveyer 5 passing through bed 1; at the entry to the bed the conveyer passes over plate 7, while at the discharge end it passes over the upper run of a second conveyer 8 which travels in the direction arrowed.
