Abstract

1310957 Cooling rod and wire USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 24 June 1970 [2 July 1969] 30754/70 Heading C7N The rod or wire is carried continuously in overlapping turns by conveyer 36 through a two stage fluidized bed 27, the two stages being separated by a thermally insulating wall 26 which does not reach the bed surface. Separate heating or cooling means are provided for each stage, the first being maintained at 200-600‹F. to effect rapid cooling of the rod through the transformation range, and the second at 850-1000‹F. to bring about transformation to a fine pearlite structure. The apparatus may include guides 44 for laterally shifting the turns on the conveyer.
