Abstract

In a sliding clasp fastener, wherein two rows of elements 2 are attached by sewn seams to folded back portions 3 of the stringer tapes 4 so that the tapes abut at their folds to conceal the interlocked rows, shoulders 19 are provided on the side of each row remote from the tape, the shoulders abutting when the rows are interlocked so as to prevent rocking of the rows about an axis along their interlocked heads 1, the elements thus remaining concealed even when the tapes are pulled in the direction of arrows 6. The shoulders 19 may comprise knots in the stitches 8 securing the elements to the tapes (as shown) and/or textile strips or cords secured to the elements. Each row of elements comprises a flattened helical coil of synthetic thermoplastic material and a packing core 5. The elements may be formed with projections, Fig. 3 (not shown), to prevent the shoulders moving with respect to the elements.
