Abstract

1,176,482. Magnetic disc. ZONAL FILM (MAGNETIC COATINGS) Ltd. 1 Sept., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 4639/69. Divided out of 1,176,481. Heading H1H. A magnetic disc 1, which is adapted to be carried by the support turntable described in Specification 1,176,481, has a cut out centre portion 6 and is either a film of thin base material which has coated on one side only a magnetic coating or is a thin film of magnetic material, the disc has a reinforced peripheral ring 4 which extends outwards and is adapted to fit into an annular groove 16 on the magnetic turntable. The base may be polyethylene terephthalate which may be coated with a layer of polymeric binder containing dispersed magnetic oxide particles. The polymeric binder may be a polyurethane based polymer. The polyethylene terephthalate may have an adherent film of a magnetic metal, e.g. Ni/Co alloy or Co, as the magnetic coating. The film of magnetic material may be of plastics material, e.g. polycarbonate containing finely comminuted magnetic oxide particles.
