Abstract

[Also in Division F1] In an air impeller unit comprising a housing 18 formed by joining together two complementary generally semi-cylindrical sections 20, 20, cradle portions 46 locate an electric driving motor 12 relative to the housing. Rotational or axial movement of the motor relative to the cradle portions 46 can be prevented by a screw 54, by a protrusion from a cradle portion engaging a dimple in the motor casing, or by radially-inturned lips at the axial ends of the cradle portions. The cradle portions are integrally connected to the remaining portions of the sections 20, 20 by radial vanes which may be twisted and of aerofoil crosssection. The two sections 20, 20 have locating pegs in their mating surfaces, and may be secured together by an adhesive or by ultrasonic welding. The electric motor lead 28 is rigidly clamped between the sections 20, 20 in complementary recesses formed therein to prevent stress at the terminal connections. The unit can be supported by a flange 36 or by a pair of bosses 38. The housing and the impeller 14 are preferably moulded from plastics material. Impellers may be arranged at both ends of the motor.
