Abstract
1,174,963. Discharging molten metal. AJAX MAGNETHERMIC CORP. 24 Feb., 1967 [11 March, 1966], No. 9038/67. Heading F4B. [Also in Division G3] In a furnace for supplying a pouring device with molten metal, a storage chamber supplies a smaller exit chamber the level in which is maintained constant by automatically controlling the pressure in the storage chamber in dependence on the level in the exit chamber. In Fig. 1, molten metal is supplied from a remote melting furnace (not shown) through a runner 11 to an entrance furnace 10 from which the metal flows through a conduit 12 to a large capacity holding furnace 13. From furnace 13 the metal flows through a conduit 14 to an exit furnace 15 which supplies single and multiple orifice pouring devices through runners extending sideways from the top of the exit furnace. The furnaces and runners may be heated by electric induction and three electrodes 22, arranged at different levels in the exit furnace, maintain the level in that furnace between limits by controlling solenoid valves 28, 29 so that air pressure in the holding furnace is either increased by coupling a fan 25 or decreased by venting to atmosphere at 30. The entrance furnace may be dispensed with and the holding furnace may also be the melting furnace.
