Abstract

1,174, 863. Rotary piston internal combustion engines. MOTORRADWERK ZSCHOPAU VEB. June 2, 1967, No.25628/67. Heading F1F. A rotary piston I. C. engine comprising a threesided piston 5, Fig. 1, mounted for planetary rotation within a casing formed by side parts 2, 3 and a central part 1 having a bi-arcuate epitrochoidal inner profile, includes in the side part 2 an inlet port connected by a duct 10 to an ellipsoidal recess 13. The recess 13 communicates with a control port 15 through which part of the intake mixture is admitted to the engine suction chamber 7 and through cavities 17 in the piston 5 through which the remainder of the mixture passes to cool the piston before entering a similar ellipsoidal recess 14 in the side part 3. The remaining mixture then passes through a control port 16 to enter the suction chamber on the other side of the piston and an additional duct 11 to enter the chamber just prior to the chamber reaching its smallest volume at "top dead centre" to ensure adequate filling of the chamber. In addition to the duct 11 a lubricating passage 12 to the shaft bearing 9 may be provided. In an alternative construction, the duct 11 may extend from the shaft bearing 9 to the inner profile so that the fuel-air mixture is drawn through the bearings 8, 9 to ensure cooling and lubrication thereof.
