Abstract

1,174,469. Seals. L. ADAMS Ltd. 8 Feb., 1968 [19 April, 1967], No. 17970/67. Heading F2B. A gland for a valve spindle is packed by pure or sintered P.T.F.E. rings 6 pre-stressed on assembly by spring means which automatically allow for thermal expansion and contraction, the pre-stressing being greater than the maximum pressure against which the gland is designed to seal. The packing may be compressed through spring washers 8 and antiextrusion rings 7 of sintered P.T.F.E. provided above and below the rings 6.
