A platform 10 is pivoted at one end to a rod 25 having end rollers 26 which are guided by slideways 13, 14 of a frame secured to a wall, and a strut 32 is pivoted at one end to a further frame 21 secured to the skirting board 20 and at the other end to the undersurface of the platform, and a lever 35 pivoted to the further frame 21 has rollers 37 which run in the strut 32, and a further lever 38 pivoted to the undersurface of the platform has rollers (101 Fig. 22) which also run in the strut 32 and the two levers 35, 38 are connected together by two side by side springs 41 disposed in the strut 32. The platform is locked in horizontal position by a locking catch 61 rotatably mounted on the rod 25 and having a bar 63 which is urged by a spring 64 over a projection 64 on the frame fixed to the wall when the platform is in the out-of-use position. The catch is released by rotating the rod 25 so that a lip or pin 68 thereon engages a projection 67 on the catch. The rod 25 is rotated by means of a bar 19, Fig. 1, which has a U-shaped end engaging a bend 70 in the middle of the rod and at the other end has a knob or is connected to a pivoted lever (102 Fig. 25). In a second embodiment (Figs. 27 to 31) the pivoted levers 35, 38 and the springs 41 are dispensed with and two torsion springs (110, 115) are assembled at the fulcrum points of the strut 32. In a third embodiment (Figs. 32, 33) the pivoted levers 35, 38 and the springs 41 are again dispensed with and a lever (116) is pivoted to the frame fixed to the wall and its upper end has a roller (117) which bears against the undersurface of the platform. The lever (116) is biassed by a torsion spring assembled at either the upper or lower pivot of the strut or both levers are dispensed with but only one torsion spring provided.
