Abstract

117,350. Lloyd, J. C. W. Sept. 22, 1917. Valves. - A double-acting four-stroke-cycle engine has two main cylinders a, b, Fig. 4, communicating with chambers d, e containing double acting slide valves of the kind described in Specification 24627/09. Each valve comprises a reciprocating slide g formed with a central throat g<1>, surrounded by a reciprocating ported sleeve f. Each valve controls the inlet and exhaust at one end of one cylinder and at the opposite end of the other cylinder. The charge is admitted through annular cavities d<3>, e<3> surrounding the valves, and the exhaust pipe p communicates with the interior of the slides g, or the pipe p may serve for admission and the cavities d<3>, e<3> for exhaust. The slide g and sleeve f are connected by rods k, l to eccentrics or crank-pins arranged at about 90‹ to each other.
