In a well point method of ground-water lowering, the well point and riser is inserted into and retained within a hollow ground-boring tool - for example a continuous flight auger - which is then drilled into the ground, the well-point and riser are released and fall to the bottom of the drilled hole, and the boring tool withdrawn from the ground. The boring tool is connected to a hydraulic motor movable in a derrick mounted on a lorry. The derrick is pivotable between a horizontal position for insertion of the riser and well-point and a vertical drilling position. At the top of the riser there is an extension having an enlarged head held in the boring tool by two spring-pressed plungers. The extension may be adjustably screwed into the riser or be of telescopic form. A pair of hydraulic rams are used to push the head from between the plungers. The bottom of the boring tool may be closed during drilling by a plug and is opened by the falling well point striking the plug. The well point and riser may be "sanded in" the hole by introducing sand through the boring tool.
