Abstract

1280965 Wells &c TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 26 May 1971 [1 June 1970] 17098/71 Heading E1F A slanting underwater well is formed in a competent formation C overlaid by an incompetent formation U by sinking casing 23 vertically into the formation U and into the upper part of the formation C, forming a length of guide passage 27 ahead of the casing and at an angle to the axis of the casing, advancing the casing into the passage, and repeating the steps of passage forming and casing advance until the lower end of the casing has the desired inclination. The casing is initially sunk by driving or jetting or it may be allowed to sink under its own weight. The passage may be formed by rotary drilling or jetting and the casing may be advanced by driving. When the desired inclination has been obtained a smaller casing is set and the well is extended by jetting or rotary drilling. The lower end of the casing may have a projection on one side. During advance of the casing, lengths of casing are welded to the upper end as necessary.
