Abstract
1, 173, 83. Pulsating type combustion chambers; silencing gaseous flow. JUNKERS & CO. G. m. b. H. Feb. 17, 1967 [Feb. 17, 1966], No. 7657/67. Headings F1B and F1L. A water heater comprises pulsating type combustion chambers 10, 11 having air intake pipes 23, 24 respectively, protruding into a smoothwalled acoustically non-absorbent chamber 30 having a volume smaller than the total volume of the combustion chambers. An air intake silencer 20 surrounds at least the chamber 30, the silencer interior 201 communicating with the atmosphere through pipes 21 and 22. A gap 35 between the top of the peripheral wall 32 and a wall 33 permits air to be drawn into the chamber 30. Webs 36 restrict the gap 35. The provision of chamber 30 improves air intake silencing. Fuel, such as methane, is supplied through a pipe 25 to a chamber 26 and thence through pipes 27, 28 to the air intake pipes 23, 24 respectively. Sparking plugs 29 effect ignition of the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chambers at starting. The combustion gases exhaust through resonant tubes 12, 13 to a silencer 14. The water heating is effected in heat exchangers 16, 17 surrounding the combustion chambers. In modifications, only one or more than two combustion chambers are provided.
