Abstract

1,172,566. Pipe joints; nuts. RUBBEROID CO. Ltd. 28 Feb., 1967 [2 March, 1966], No. 9217/66. Headings F2G and F2H. A pipe union, preferably moulded of synthetic plastics such as P.V.C. or A.B.S., comprises a nut 3 and a collar 1 each having a body portion for receiving a respective pipe and an oppositely-directed peripheral flange 2 or 4, each flange having a single cut away portion 8 or 9 so that the nut and collar can be assembled by tilting one with respect to the other, engaging a radial edge of one out away portion behind a radial edge of the other cut away portion, and subsequently rotating the nut relative to the collar. The flanges are cut away at an angle of 72À5 degrees, for example, relative to the nut and collar axes, and the external periphery of the nut is provided with longitudinal gripping ribs. The nut is moulded in one piece with the screw thread 7 extending to the flange. A recess 10 is then machined in the nut and subsequently houses a neoprene 0-ring 11.
