A spigot-and-socket connection is composed of a synthetic plastic material for use in synthetic plastic piping, the socket 3 having an annular enlargement 4 for accommodating a compressible packing ring 6, the gap between the spigot and socket being narrow enough to allow, as an alternative to the use of a packing ring, an adhesive union to be established between the spigot and the socket.
