Abstract

1,172,484. Planting seeds. ALLIS-CHALMERS MFG. CO. 16 Aug., 1968 [22 Aug., 1967], No. 39263/68. Heading A1D. A seed planting implement comprises a frame 5 supporting via tool bars 8, 10, a fluted disc cutter 12 to form a strip of worked soil, a disc furrow opener 24, a seed dispensing hopper 36 and a furrow closing and soil compacting wheel 32 which has a rib 48. Fertilizer from a hopper 38 can be deposited in a furrow formed by a disc opener 41 which is laterally offset relative to the longitudinal centre line of the disc coulter and disc furrow opener. This fertilizing means may be positioned rearwardly of the seed dispensing hopper. The implement may be mounted completely on a tractor or it mav have its own ground wheels. The Specification also claims a process which involves the preparation, opening, seeding and closing of a strip of soil.
