Abstract

1,171,553. Boat steering gear. TELEFLEX PRODUCTS Ltd. 22 May, 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 8552/67. Heading B7V. In a marine steering gear having a steering head associated with a steering wheel and including a cable drive wheel 32 that is rotated by the steering wheel and brings about linear movements of a flexible mechanical transmission cable, the cable is connected at its other end 58, Fig. 7, by a swivel body 56 to the steering arm of the boat and the steering head comprises two separate units disposed at the back and the front of the boat dashboard respectively and secured to one another by bolts passing through, the back unit comprising a cable operating box housing the cable drive wheel 32. In the embodiment shown, the front unit of the steering head is itself built up of two parts 18, 22 disposed contiguously one in front of the other.
