Abstract
1,165,673. Sailing simulator. T.P.I. Ltd. 19 May, 1967 [19 May, 1966], No. 22381/66. Heading B7V. A device for determining the apparent direction of the wind for a sailing simulator in which the structure 1 carrying the hull (not shown) is fixed to the casing of a motor 2 having a driving wheel rotating on the floor 3 on which the simulator is installed to swing the hull in response to helm movements, the floor having secured thereto a vertical shaft 4 with a bevel pinion 5 meshing with a bevel pinion 8 on a shaft 7 carried by a bracket 6 on the structure 1 and having a bevel pinion 9 at its other end, an actuator 10 also being mounted on the structure 1, comprises a differential containing three bevel pinions 9, 11, 12, of which two, 9 and 11, are coaxial and the third, 12, has its axis normal to that of the other two, the pinion 9 being driven via pinions 8 and 5 in response to rotation of the hull about a vertical axis, the pinion 11 being driven by the actuator 10 in response to a signal representative of the true wind direction relative to a fixed reference direction, and an output transmitter 14 having a shaft 13 which is coaxial with that of the two pinions 8 and 9 and carries the third pinion 12.
