Abstract

1,171,066. Windscreen wipers. E. A. MELTZER. 31 Jan., 1968, No. 4987/68. Heading A4F. A windscreen wiper comprises a backing member 36 to which is attached a heating element 44 extending parallel with but in spaced relation to a portion of the backing member 36, and a wiper blade 50 having a bore 60 which slidably accommodates the heating element 44. The wiper blade 50 which may be of rubber is provided with a pair of longitudinal grooves 56 which are either slidingly engaged with flanges 40 as the blade 50 is slid on to the heating element or are engaged by clips (118) (Figs 4 and 5, not shown) to secure the blade to the backing member when the blade is in position on the heating element. The backing member may comprise a metal strip (102) (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) or a plastics channel shaped member having grooves engaged by a strip 34, which is provided with marginal indentations, such indentations accommodating claw portions of a yoke assembly (10) (Fig. 1, not shown) pivotally connected to a wiper arm (22). The heating element may comprise electrical wires 46 embedded in asbestos or other suitable material.
