Abstract
1,169,907. Thermosetting synthetic fibrous materials. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. and FLEISSNER G.m.b.H. 25 Nov., 1966 [29 Nov., 1965; 11 May, 1966 (2)], No. 53024/66. Heading D1L. Thermosetting or thermosoling of synthetic fibrous materials is effected by passing heated gas through the material which is spread out over a sieve. The sieve is preferably in the form of a rotating cylindrical sieve 5 which is contained in a closed casing 1 and is under the action of a suction draft, the material being in web form 12. The gas. after being expelled from the cylinder by ventilators 8 passes over heating devices 4 and is recycled to the material. To prevent the sieve perforations leaving marks, the cylinder is covered with a seamless fine meshed sieve with a distance between the wires of less than 1 mm. Several cylindrical sieves may be arranged in series, preferably rotating at different speeds so that overfeeding of the material is achieved to allow for shrinkage. The material may be preheated by passing between heated rolls 11. A water cooled drum may be arranged at the material outlet of the casing 1. An endless perforated band running in a closed casing may replace the cylinder. The web of material may be printed or padded with dyestuff which is fixed in the apparatus. Suitable gases are air, steam, nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
