Abstract

Two-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear. - A rotating cylinder D contains a pair of oppositelymoving pistons which comprises air or combustible mixture with their faces remote from the combustion chamber and engage a central driving- cam B, the pistons carrying pins e<1> which engage a supplementary cam track B<1> in a fixed casing A. The engine completes two cycles every revolution, the cam track being constructed to produce a dwell on the pistons during the exhaust period and to enable the piston controlling the exhaust to open the outlet ports in advance of the opening of the admission ports. The piston-controlled ports d serve alternately for admission and exhaust, the port d which registers with a transfer passage a<1> in the fixed casing admitting the charge from the pump space whilst the port d at the opposite end of the cylinder registers with an exhaust port (not shown), in the casing. Ports d<1> in the rotating cylinder member c register with casing ports (not shown), during the suction periods in the pump space.
