Abstract

Crucible furnaces.-A gas or oil fired furnace of the tilting or pit type is fitted with a removable concave bottom supported in position by cotterpins passing through lugs, for the purpose of facilitating the removal of slag and spilt metal. The bottom may be made in one piece or as a pair of concave doors hinged or otherwise attached, and these doors may be formed as frames 11 adapted to receive loose trays 10. The inner surface may be lined with non-conducting material. V.shaped joints 15 with suitable packing, such as lime, may be arranged between the engaging edges of the doors or bottoms and the under surface of the furnace casing.
