Abstract
6680. Gobbe, O. Aug. 19, 1912, [Convention date]. Cooling.-One or more courses of the walls of a tank or like furnace for melting glass are formed of recessed blocks c, arranged as shown in Fig. 1, and into the recesses of the blocks air is supplied from a pipe a by means of tuyeres b for the purpose of keeping the walls cool. To the bottom ends of the recesses in the blocks, plates d of refractory material may be applied, as shown in Fig. 3, to prolong the life of the blocks. Instead of air, atomized water or steam may be employed, in which case the recesses in the blocks are lined with metal to prevent deterioration.
