Abstract
1,169,277. Valves. SULZER BROS Ltd. 23 March, 1967 [25 March, 1966], No. 13784/67. Heading F2V. A valve (Fig. 1, not shown) for regulating the flow of a heating or cooling medium has a valve closure member (16) whose position, in relation to its seat, is determined by the position of an intermediate, axially movable member 11 acted upon by an external thermostat 27, 36,35. The thermostat is fixed in an insert member 31 which is non-rotatable and housed within an insulating member 26 attached to the valve body (3) by a nut 1. The insulating member is screw-threaded as at 28 for engagement by an internally threaded knob 30, rotation of which knob serving to determine the axial position of the insert 31, thermostat 27, member 11 and hence the valve member which in turn determines the temperature at which the latter becomes seated. A metal stop-ring 37, provided in a recess 38 within the knob and fixed in relation to the insert 31, carries a graduated scale 40 and a downwardly projecting stop 49, the latter serving in conjunction with two set screws 43 provided in circumferentially spaced apertures 44 in the knob, to limit the rotation of the latter. The scale may consist of a thin sheet of polyvinylchloride on whose underside the temperature scale is printed in P.V.C. ink, protection of the print being effected by metallizing the underside and backing it with silicone treated paper. The scale is secured to the ring 37 by latex adhesive. Members 11, 26, 30 and 31 are made from plastics material and members 11 and 26 are further provided with apertures 48 and 29 respectively to enhance air circulation so as to minimize direct heat transfer between the valve and the thermostat.
