Abstract
1,168,598. Spark gaps. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 28 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 30993/68. Headings H1D and H1X. A triggered spark gap comprises a cylindrical anode 1, a cathode 3 comprising a ring 4 carrying radial partitions 5 terminating in plates 6, and at least one striking electrode 2 disposed in the space limited by two radial planes touching the edges 6a of two consecutive plates 6 and by the annular segment 4a of the cathode lying between these planes. Preferably the electrode 2 is disposed as shown in the outer portion of this space beyond the cylindrical surface defined by the plates 6. The anode 1 has three portions of different diameters (Fig. 3, not shown) enabling three different gap sizes to be selected by moving the anode axially along a shaft by means of a lever. A stream of gas may be forced between the electrodes, or the spark gap may be placed in a container filled with an inert gas under pressure.
