Abstract

Floats, supported on.-A central hollow beam a carrying the usual load and propelling machinery is supported from a number of floats b by articulated structures c. As shown in Fig. 7, each float b is connected to a rotatable shaft h and to a beam f jointed to the beam a and fitted with a dash-pot i, j or cushioning spring. The shaft h is also jointed to the beam a by a rod l, the whole forming a parallel motion which yields freely to wave &c. action. Fig. 9 shows the apparatus in its most simple form and fitted with a spring j. Intermediate floats b<1> may be fitted, as shown in Fig. 4, and inclined rudders p may be fitted to the floats, as shown in Fig. 10.
