Abstract

1,166,955. Acrylonitrile copolymer composite fibres. JAPAN EXLAN CO. Ltd. 28 March, 1967 [26 March, 1966], No. 14169/67. Heading B5B. A wet spun composite fibre comprises two dissimilar polymeric materials in lamellar longitudinal conjugation, each of said polymeric materials consisting essentially of acrylonitrile which has been copolymerized with 5 to 15% by weight of at least one hydrophobic non-crystalline high polymer forming monomer, different proportions of said monomer being present in each polymeric material with the difference being between 0À5 and 3% by weight, said polymeric materials each containing substantially equal amounts of acidic groups, and said composite fibre exhibiting a reversibility of crimp in water when heated in an aqueous medium to a temperature above the glass transition point of the non-crystalline regions of the polymeric materials. Methyl acrylate and vinyl acetate are exemplified as non-crystalline high polymer forming monomers and sulphonic acid groups are the preferred acidic groups.
