Abstract

1408465 Hydrolysed acrylonitrile polymer blends and fibres ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 17 Jan 1973 [18 Jan 1972 27 July 1972] 2461/73 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions B5 and D2] An acrylic polymer is formed by hydrolysis of a solution of an acrylic polymer (containing at least 30% by weight acrylonitrile) in nitric acid of 55 to 85% by weight at 0‹ to 70‹ C. In examples the initial acrylic polymer is homopolyacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile copolymerized with N,N-dimethyl acrylamide, acrylic acid, acrylamide and methoxy polyethylene glycol acrylate. Preferably the initial polymer is obtained by solution polymerization in nitric acid solution. The resultant polymer is blended with another acrylic polymer and wet-spun into fibres which are then used for making paper (see Divisions B5 and D2).
