<I>Beispiele</I> 1.

Process for the Production of Spun threads from Acrylonitrile Polymers This invention relates to the shaping of polymers, which are composed predominantly of acrylonitrile and are referred to below as acrylonitrile polymers, into spun threads by wet spinning. Spun threads are to be understood as endless, silk-like threads as well as shorter wool-like and cotton-like fibers.
It is known that spinnable polyacrylonitrile solutions can be produced with nitric acid. Partial saponification easily occurs and the webs consequently show a lower water and weather resistance than the unsaponified products.
It was later known that polyacrylonitriles can be dissolved in aqueous nitric acid and shaped into threads without changing their chemical properties if the solutions are produced and spun below 20 C before hydrolysis occurs. In order to obtain threads with good mechanical properties, small amounts of solvent, i.e. nitric acid, must remain in the thread structure until it is stretched and dried, which has a number of disadvantages. The removal of the last remnants of HNO3 requires special post-treatment of the dry thread.
Furthermore, the threads tend to stick together in the presence of solvents, which can only be prevented by taking additional measures. And finally, ENTs endanger almost all parts of the apparatus that come into contact with them at higher temperatures.
A process has now been found for producing webs from polymers, which are predominantly composed of acrylonitrile, by spinning an aqueous nitric acid solution of the polymer into an aqueous precipitation bath, washing, stretching, shrinking and drying the webs , which eliminates the disadvantages mentioned above and also improves the quality of the products and brings economic advantages.
The process according to the invention is characterized in that the polymer is dissolved below 20 ° C., especially at 0 to -10 ° C., in aqueous nitric acid with 56 to 65 percent by weight of HNO3 and in aqueous nitric acid with 40 to 50, preferably 40 to 46 percent by weight, ENT content is spun and then washed acid-free.
As has been shown, the higher the concentration of the precipitation bath acid, the higher the stretchability of the acid-free thread in hot water, as the following values 1-3 in the table show. The values 1 are only given as a comparison to better emphasize the method according to the invention.
EMI0001.0042
HNO3 <SEP> in the <SEP> precipitation bath <SEP> stretchability
<tb> 1 <SEP> 35-40 <SEP> fl / o <SEP> 8-fold
<tb> 2 <SEP> 40-43% <SEP> 11-fold
<tb> 3 <SEP> 43--461 / o <SEP> 15-fold As is generally known, the higher degree of stretching causes an increase in strength.
Another and particularly great advantage is that the high stretchability in the wet state is so important that the otherwise customary stretching of the polyacrylonitrile threads in the dry state at higher temperatures can be completely dispensed with. This makes it possible to carry out the entire deformation of the polymer up to the finished thread without exceeding the temperature of 100.degree. These mild conditions have a very beneficial effect on the color of the products.
The invention is carried out in all common z. B. in the following way: The acrylonitrile polymer with an average molecular weight of <B> 30,000-150000 </B> in fine-grained form is dissolved in aqueous nitric acid with 56-65 percent by weight HNOJ content at about 0C. This solution is precipitated in a known manner with the aid of spinnerets in aqueous nitric acid with 40-46 percent by weight HNO3 content at 0 to -10 C. The resulting thread-like structure is washed completely acid-free with water at 0-30 ° C.
You can last with water that z. B. is made slightly alkaline by ammonium carbonate, wash again to remove the last trace of HNO3. turn off. The acid-free thread is then stretched 8 to 15 times in water or steam at 90-100 C. The stretched thread is then passed with the lowest possible tension through a second water bath at 90-100 C, where it gives off part of its swelling water and at the same time shortens slightly. The thread is then placed under low tension, e.g.
B. 5 g per 100 denier, passed through a dryer where it is dried at 50-1000C. The following example 1 explains this mode of operation in a special embodiment.
The higher concentration of HN03 in the felling bath is also an economic advantage. Because the regeneration of the acid requires less energy, the more concentrated it is. Another simplification for the regeneration is the absence of salts.
<I> Examples </I> 1. At about 0 C, <B> 150 </B> g of polyacrylonitrile with an average molecular weight of <B> 60000 </B> and a particle diameter of 10-100 / c in 525 g of aqueous nitric acid stirred in with 54 0 / u HN03 content. A suspension of polyacrylonitrile is formed. To this end, 855 g of aqueous nitric acid with 63% HNO3 content are added at 20-4.0 mm absolute pressure.
When stirring at 0 C, the mass changes to a water-clear solution within a few minutes. The solution contains 9.8% polymer, dissolved in aqueous nitric acid with 59.5% HN03 content. Its viscosity at 15 C is 90 P.
The solution is filtered at about 0 C through a filter material made of polyvinyl chloride, degassed and with the help of a gear pump with 300 gib through a spinneret made of chromium nickel steel 18/8 with 100 holes 0.2 mm in diameter in aqueous nitric acid with 44 percent by weight HNO3 content , which is kept at minus 4 to minus 7 C. The resulting threads are at a speed of 2.0 m / min. peeled off and washed acid-free with water at 10-30 C.
The thread bundle is then passed through a boiling water bath, from which it is removed at 28 miMin. is deducted. It is thus stretched to 14 times its original length. From there, the thread bundle is passed through a second boiling water bath, in which it is allowed to shrink, to a drying chamber, where it is dried with air at 60-90 C and then removed from a spool at a speed of 22.5 m / Min. is wound up at a thread tension of 4-6 g per 100 denier. The titer of the 100 threads is 220 denier.
The thread is white and silky. The tensile strength of each <B> 100 </B> Denier is 420-450 g at 18 to 20% elongation, the knot strength 250-270 g at 10-12 0 / a elongation.
The threads were exposed to the weather in Freiburg (640 m above sea level, 46 north latitude) on a meadow 30 cm above the ground for 14 months. The loss of strength after this time was only 20% of the initial value. For comparison, a material made from the same polymer, which, however, was dissolved and spun in nitric acid with hydrolysis of 20% of the nitrile groups, lost more than 9010 / @ of its strength under the same conditions.
2. The procedure was as in Example 1, but the precipitating bath acid contained 35, 40 and 44% HNO3. The table shows the degree of stretch, the strength and knot strength with the associated elongation per 100 denier. The spinning in a precipitation bath with a HNO3 content of 35 percent by weight was only carried out to show comparative values.
