Abstract

1,161,606. Crimped acrylonitrile filaments. JAPAN EXLAN CO. Ltd. 26 Aug., 1966 [31 Aug., 1965], No. 38490/66. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] A composite fibre having its components arranged eccentrically along its length and having 10 or more crimps/25 mm., a crimping degree of at least 15% and a Young's modulus of at least 80 g./d. is made by concurrently extruding at least two copolymers of acrylonitrile with at least one unsaturated monomer copolymerizable therewith, the copolymers differing in chemical composition and/or molecular weight, washing and drawing the fibre and drying it without tension below 90‹ C. after the extrusion and drawing steps, and omitting any heat-treatment in a relaxed condition above 90‹ C. Exemplified are two copolymers with methyl acrylate arid sodium methallyl sulphonate having different contents of acrylonitrile, which are wet-spun from concentrated into dilute NaCNS solution. Other suitable copolymerizable monomers are listed.
