Abstract

1,166,599. Cathode ray tubes. NIPPON ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 16 Aug., 1968 [19 Aug., 1967], No. 39339/68. Heading H1D. The luminescent screen of a numerical display tube comprises a base-plate formed with a number of grooves corresponding to segments of the numbers to be displayed, each groove containing luminescent material. Since the edges of the luminescent material are clearly defined by the edges of the grooves, the usual masking electrode is unnecessary. The baseplate may be of glass or ceramic in which the grooves are formed by etching, after which the grooves are coated with a conductive coating on which the fluorescent material is deposited by sedimentation. In an alternative the base-plate may be of metal with the luminescent material deposited in grooves formed in the metal.
