Abstract
792,021. Cathode ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 18, 1955 [Nov. 23, 1954], No. 33064/55. Class 39(1). In a tuning indicator the fluorescent screen consists of a plurality of portions of different colours or a filter having strips of different colours is arranged covering the fluorescent screen to give the same visual effect, the screen comprising an optically transparent anode having a fluorescent coating. In one form, Fig. 1, which is a tuning indicator of the thermometer type, i.e., the length of the luminous trace varies with the voltage on deflecting electrode 4, cooperating with grid 3 and cathode 2, an optical filter is arranged outside the tube wall. The filter comprises three differently coloured strips, e.g., red, blue and green or any other suitable number of strips, preferably including all the basic colours. The colour transition between strips can be sharp or gradual. Preferably the filter contains all the colours of the visible spectrum. The screen structure comprises a transparent conductive layer 6 which may be of tin oxide produced from vapours or solutions of tin chloride or metal evaporated or otherwise deposited &c., and phosphor layer 5, e.g., of white light-emitting ZnO. If the fluorescent layer 5 is made up of phosphor strips of different colours the filter arrangement is dispensed with.
