Abstract

927,107. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 5, 1962 [March 8, 1961], No. 8434/62. Class 3 (1). A cathode-ray tube for displaying coloured images comprises a display screen having at least two, preferably three, luminescent phosphors 6, 7, 8 which emit light of different colours and are arranged according to a recurrent regular pattern of parallel stripes so that any two adjacent stripes emit light of different colours, wherein at least the luminescent stripes of the colour of the greatest luminance have non-luminescent interruptions, 12, such that the number of interruptions in a stripe is at least equal to one tenth of the total number of stripes on the screen, the spacing a between two successive interruptions in a stripe is at least equal to thrice the width, b, of the stripe and the length, c, of an interruption is at most equal to twice the width, b, of the stripe. The interruptions in any two adjacent stripes are preferably staggered or, alternatively, each set of stripes containing luminescent materials emitting light of all the different colours may have their interruptions staggered, the interruptions in each stripe within the set being arranged side by side. The tube may have a colour selection grid or indexing stripes in the manner of an " Apple " tube.
