Slicing.-Wood is comminuted for the manufacture of wood pulp by slicing it across the grain in a machine in which it is fed at rightangles to a rotating disk a in which the slicing-knives b are set. In the apparatus described, logs d side by side are pressed against cutters by fluid pressure exerted in a cylinder e against a ram f, which is withdrawn by a weight n through a system of pulleys.
