Abstract

124,854. Hellstrom, G. Jan. 29, 1918. Bark, removing.-In machines for barking logs, the depth of out is regulated by a device which is arranged to be at the same side of the log as the cutters. In the machine described, the cutters are arranged on a rotary disk 3, and the log A is supported on both sides of the cutters by rollers 8 mounted on levers 9 adapted to be adjusted independently by cam-disks 14<a> on a shaft 13, whereby the depth of cut is regulated; or the depth of cut may be regulated by adjusting the height of the cutter disk 3. The leg is fed and rotated by an inclined roller 30, and the rate of feed can be regulated both by adjusting the inclination of the roller 30 by levers operated from a cam-disk on the shaft 13, and by regulating the speed of the roller by means of adjustable friction gear 37a, 37b. Pressure is exerted on the log by a roller 18 carried by a weighted lever 19, and the lever can be rocked through toothed gearing by a hand-wheel 29 to raise the roller 18 or to increase its pressure on the log. An alternative log feeding and rotating device comprises a rotating helical spring metal blade the pitch of which can be varied by endways pressure. The bark is discharged by a shoot 45 to a conveyer. The cutters and the cut-regulating device may be arranged at the side of or above the log.
