Abstract
1,165,207. Rotary pumps and motors. ABEX CORP. Oct. 24, 1966 [Dec. 9, 1965], No.47648/66. Heading F1F. A rotary sliding vane pump or motor of the multiple abutment type, having a roter 14, Fig. 3, formed with a plurality of equiangularly-spaced radial slots 17 slidably mounting vanes 18 with each vane having a groove 36 extending across its tip and down its axial end faces (not shown) so that the radial outer and inner end faces of the vane are subjected to equal fluid-pressure, includes beneath each vane one or more radial bores 38 each slidably mounting a plunger 41 having a bore 42 connecting the inner end 32 of a vane slot 17 with a pressure chamber 39 defined by an annular groove in the rotor which is closed by a sleeve 40. Each plunger, at its outer end is formed with a conical surface 43 co-operable with the plane inner end 44 of the vane 18 to form a check valve and includes at its inner end a restricted opening 46 to the chamber 39 and a chamfered edge 47. As a vane 18 traverses the high pressure zone of the pump or motor and moves inwardly in its slot, the valve 41, 44 opens to admit pressure fluid to the bore or bores 38 and restrictedly to the pressure chamber 39 until the pressure in that chamber is sufficient to balance the pressure acting to open the valve. As a vane 18 traverses a suction or low pressure zone of the pump or motor, the pressure in the chamber 39 exceeds the pressure in the inner end 32 of the slot 17 whense the valve 41, 44 closes to urge the vane 18 radially outwards into sealing engagement with the inner cam surface 19 on the stator 9. The valves 41, 44 and the restriction 46 together with the chamfers 47 arrests downward movement of the plungers to prevent damage thereto and to the surfaces against which they abut, fluid trapped beneath the chamfer 47 acts as a shock absorber.
