Abstract

1328728 Rotary positive-displacement pumps FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 25720/71 Heading F1F An hydraulic pump has a rotor 36 with spring- loaded slippers 40 that engage with a cam ring 22, which has a pivot extension 28 and carrier pins 34, 55 abutting a fixed housing 10 to form pressure chambers. High and low pressure ports 48, 44 are disposed in the housing as shown, the port 48 being connected to a hydro-kinetic torqueconverter (not shown). During normal operation pressure is applied to the exterior of the cam ring through a passage 80 from the port 44 and through a passage 64 and a further passage 66 controlled by a valve element 70, the forces thus acting on the ring being balanced. When the output pressure falls an externally-applied force moves the element 70 in opposition to the pressure acting thereon to partially shut off the passage 66 and thus unbalance said forces. The corresponding displacement of the cam ring increases the rate of flow and thereby causes the element 70 to re-open the passage 66. Modified forms of the pump, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), differ chiefly in regard to the pivot for the cam ring and the valve element and related parts.
