Abstract

1,164,693. Sparking plugs. FABRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI S.p.A. Jan. 31, 1967 [Jan. 31, 1966], No. 4659/67. Heading F1B. A sparking plug comprises an electrode 2, 3, consisting of at least one part, the part being gas-tightly secured in the bore of an insulator 1 having a given axial length, a metal body 4 having a given axial length, spaced from and surrounding the insulator and the electrode and a compression deformed bushing 5 of plastic metallic material having a shorter axial length than either the insulator or the metal body in a selected portion of the annular space formed between the body and the insulator. The bushing adheres tightly to the insulator and metal body to effect a gas tight seal at the selected part of the annular space. The invention is applicable to a spark plug of conventional type, or of surface discharge type, or in which the spark follows a path partly through the air and partly along the insulating material between the electrodes. The Specification also refers to a sparking plug of the mixed discharge type.
