Abstract
1,164,641. Photographic finishing. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORP. Sept. 13, 1966 [Sept. 15, 1965], No.40898/66. Heading G2C. A diffusion transfer photographic silver print containing a residue of the reagents with which it has been processed is surface treated with a solution comprising a film-forming polymer having acid-function groups, e.g. carboxylic acid or anhydride, and sufficient of a volatile base, e.g. ammonia, for the PH to be at least 8, and the surface is dried to form a thin layer of the dried solution thereon. The polymer may be cellulose acetate hydrogen phthalate, a copolymer of ethylene and maleic anhydride or a phthaldehydric acid substituted partial acetal of polyvinyl alcohol. The solution may also contain water, a watermiscible alcohol or ketone, zinc acetate or oxide, hydrolyzed gelatine, a hydantoin formaldehyde condensation polymer. In the example the photographic silver transfer images were prepared by exposing photo-sensitive silver halide elements to a step-wedge, and developing with an aq. solution of silver halide developer, silver halide solvent and an alkali; and the silver images were then swabbed with an absorbent applicator with the above solution and dried.
