Abstract
1,164,200. Alkali metal phenates. TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc. 3 Oct., 1967 [5 Oct., 1966], No. 45049/67. Heading C2C. The invention comprises high surface area alkali metal phenate particles having a particle size of from about 10 to 110 microns and an average particle size of less than 70 microns, containing less than about 2% by weight of water and further characterized by a substantially spherical and hollow shape and a process for producing substantially anhydrous, high surface area alkali metal phenate particles characterized by atomizing an aqueous solution of an alkali metal phenate, contacting the resulting spray with a flow of heated inert gas containing less than about 0À5% by volume of carbon dioxide to effect dehydration and solidification of said spray and recovering substantially anhydrous, solid, finely-divided alkali metal phenate particles. The phenols from which the phenols employed as starting materials are derived may be mono- or poly-nuclear and may be substituted. The production of sodium and potassium phenate particles is described with reference to the apparatus in the drawing (not shown).
