Abstract

1,164,158. Power plant. HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. Feb. 7, 1968 [Nov. 11, 1966], No.50578/66. Heading F1Q. A peak load generating installation comprises an energy recovery steam generator 2, 3 for supplying steam to a steam turbine unit 11 and a gas turbine unit 1 the exhaust gases of which are passed through the recovery generator to effect steam generation. A steam accumulator 10 is operatively associated with the recovery generator to provide a supply of steam substantially instantaneously, auxiliary means 7 being provided to charge the accumulator with steam during off peak periods. The auxiliary means may comprise a secondary steam generator such as an oil fired boiler or a supply of site steam from a suitable source. The auxiliary means may also be operatively associated with the recovery generator to provide a supply of steam to the latter during off peak periods. Control means may be provided to cut off the supply of steam from the accumulator to the steam turbine unit when the pressure in the recovery generator reaches a predetermined value.
