Abstract

In the improvement of the load factor of a nuclear power station supplying electricity to the grid, by utilising all or part of the power not required in off-peak periods to produce hydrogen which is then stored, the hydrogen is subsequently burnt to produce heat for superheating the steam produced by the reactor. More esp. the combustion of the hydrogen is carried out continuously and directly in the steam to be superheated. Givesn an improved load factor and hence improved generating efficiency, particularly taking into account the provision of superheated steam to the turbines.
