Abstract

1,163,446. Metal-vapour lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 Oct., 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 47014/66. Heading HiD. The filling of a high-pressure mercury vapour lamp for use in promoting the growth of plants, includes-apart from optional potassium-only mercury, a rare gas, indium, lithium, and iodine, in such proportions that at least enough iodine is present to prevent the wall of the discharge tube, which is mounted in an outer envelope and may be of quartz, from being attacked by the lithium. The rare gas is preferably argon at 10 to 30 torr, and the quantity of lithium, and of potassium if present, is sufficient to ensure that their iodides are present at the operational temperature of the lamp. A getter is present in the outer envelope. Numerical data concerning the filling materials, and the envelope dimensions and loading, are given.
